TNR is a humane and effective method for managing feral cat populations.
Steps in the TNR Process
Trapping – The cats are carefully trapped and transported for veterinary care.
Sterilisation – Each cat is spayed or neutered to prevent further reproduction.
Ear Tipping – A small portion of the cat’s ear is clipped to indicate that it has been sterilized. This helps in identifying any new, unsterilised cats in the colony.
Return and Monitoring – The cats are returned to their familiar territory, where they continue to live as a stable, non-breeding colony.
Kittens – If kittens under eight weeks of age are found, they will be removed and placed in foster care until they are old enough to be adopted into permanent homes.
TNR is a proven method for reducing feral cat populations over time while ensuring they remain healthy and do not become a nuisance. With continued efforts, we can create a more balanced coexistence between humans and feral cats in urban environments.
