There are so many controversial conversations about when a kitten should be sterilised. Here’s the simple version.
Little boys
With little boys, you can only sterilise them once you can see their little testicles — if not, what will the vet remove? The testicles should start appearing from about 16 weeks old, and from this time onwards is a good time to sterilise.
Little girls
For little girls there’s also a lot of controversy — some say 8 weeks, some say 6 months. But because of the pregnancy cycle, a female kitten should be sterilised when she is 5 months old. Kittens can fall pregnant at the tender age of just 5 months!
When in doubt, chat to your vet — but don’t leave it too late. One unsterilised female is all it takes to start the cycle again.
